Ikoyi is the most affluent Area in Lagos state.

Image
ONÍKÒYÍ  Ikoyi is the most affluent Area in Lagos state.  It is popular with the extreme upper class residents of Nigeria. It is believed to be the wealthiest community in Nigeria. It is located on the Lagos Island and historically  it was developed mainly for the British expatriate during the colonial era. Ikoyi is thought to have the most expensive real estate on the entire African continent.  Life in Ikoyi is extremely blissful due to the serenity and most conducive green vegetation that surrounds the entire community. The sweet melody of songs from Nightingales, Lovebirds, Parakeets, Parrots and other pleasant birds are the sounds that wakes you up in this "Garden of Eden" of Lagos. Unfortunately, the Ancient ÌKÒYÍ that gave birth to this land in Lagos never enjoyed this peaceful and serenity as enjoyed today by the Lagos-Ikoyi.  It was the land of brave warriors and Calvary officers who became the elite corps of the ÒYÓ army. Instead of perceiving the sweet loving birds

The Nri Kingdom

The kingdom of Nri, in the Igbo language called Ọ̀ràézè Ǹrì is a medieval Igbo kingdom that originated around AD900 and presently still in existence, although its influence and territory have significantly waned. It is among the oldest existing monarchy in Nigeria and had its capital at Igbo-Ukwu. HISTORY AND ORIGIN Nri is widely asserted to be the motherland and cradle of the Igbo ethnicity. It is also generally believed and widely accepted that Eri was the founder of Nri. The origin of Eri however, is vague. One theory goes that Eri was a divine being sent by Chukwu (God), to make peace, cleanse abominations and provide foods for the Igbo people. Thus in this theory, he descended from the sky. Another explanation of Eri’s ancestry, however, was that Eri is the grandson of the biblical Jacob, and his father is Gad, the 7th son of Jacob. Eri was a high priest to the pharaoh in Egypt. Before the scriptural mass Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, he sensed the impending onslaught of th

The origin of Nupe Kingdom

Traditionally called the Tapa by the Yorubas, the Nupes trace their origin to Tsoede who fled the court of Idah. The Nupe Kingdom occupies the northern part of the Igala Kingdom, an ethnic group located primarily in the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria. The Nupe call themselves Nupeci and refer to their language as Nupe and are the dominant group in Niger State, an important minority in Kwara State and present in Kogi State as well. Traditionally called the Tapa by the Yorubas, the Nupes trace their origin to Tsoede who fled the court of Idah and established towns along the Niger in the 15th century. The Nupe are divided into different subgroups, including  Batau, Kyedye, Eghagi, Ebe,  and  Benu , along with several others that speak related languages. Some Nupe have always lived outside the group's boundaries, and others have lived in Nupeland. There are probably about 3.5 million Nupes, mostly in Niger State, although a small but growing diaspora of Nupe can be found

The Story of Princess Inikpi :The Heroine of Igala Kingdom

For some of us who have only heard about the name INIKPI, without knowing who she really is, here is the story for you; There was war between the Bini kingdom and the Igala people. No house was safe. No markets were safe. Even the streams were women and children would fetch water from or have a bath were not safe. The Igala people’s streams were poisoned so that anyone that used the water on the day would die. Fear griped the Igala people for a long time. When the oracle was consulted, it said that their victory could not come unless the princess was buried alive to prevent the inevitable destruction that was hanging on the Igala kingdom during the war with the Binis. Princess Inikpi was the beloved and only daughter of Attah of Igala then Ayegba Oma Idoko, who willingly gave herself to be buried alive. Her father, the Attah of Igala loved his daughter so much. When he was informed of the only solution to the problem by the oracle and some of the eunuchs in his
